COROLLA

Corolla, the northernmost accessible town of the Outer Banks, remained a sleepy seaside village up until the early 1980s when the road (Highway 12) was extended north of the Currituck County line and the development was brought in the area. In the early days, the northern beaches of Corolla were in their rural state and among the few structures in the village were the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Whalehead Club.

Today, Corolla is one of the most desirable vacation destinations not only in the Outer Banks but in the country. It is home to some of the most luxurious homes; and exclusive upscale communities with a wide range of recreational facilities abound: the Currituck Club, the Villages of Ocean Hill, Whalehead and Ocean Sands. With the development still proceeding, this OBX community managed to retain its natural beauty and its pristine beaches and earned the reputation of "one of the 10 best undiscovered beaches on the east Coast" (USA Weekend) and "one of the last remaining stretches of unspoiled beaches in the US" (USA Today).
