KITTY HAWK

Once a remote area and a tiny soundside village, today Kitty Hawk is one of the largest townships on the Outer Banks and home to 3,399 year-round residents. It
is probably best known as the birthplace of aviation and is associated with Orville and Wilbur Wright and their discovery of flight in 1903, although the actual flight took place just 4 miles south, in Kill Devil Hills.

Kitty Hawk is a busy vacation town, linking the Currituck Mainland and the Outer Banks Beaches via the Wright Memorial Bridge. With great shopping and home to many businesses and a variety of resort homes and condos, this town is full of activity. But it has a softer, more leisurely side, often unknown to visitors. With canals leading to the open waters of the Albemarle Sound, marshes and shaded lanes, Kitty Hawk Westside is reminiscent of the way Outer Banks used to be. Convenient to the Regional Medical Center and the Kitty Hawk Elementary School, the communities of Martins Point, Kitty Hawk Landing, Sea Scape, Sandpiper Cay are very popular with Outer Banks residents and those relocating to the area.
